How to determine the date of production/manufacture or age of an BORG-WARNER® furnace or other BORG-WARNER HVAC® unit.

The date of production/manufacture or age of an BORG-WARNER® furnace or other BORG-WARNER® HVAC equipment can be determined from the serial number. Serial number styles/formats found:
Style 1: 0A5123456
Style 2: EFBM4210830
Style 3: HM409295 (see notes above slide example)
The below style was used with "York - division of Borg-Warner"
Note that while this example indicates the second letter represents the year of manufacture, if two letters are at the beginning, the year of manufacture can be either the first OR second letter. The same year chart applies regardless. One must use other data or visual clues to help determine the year.
i.e. The below style could indicate the unit was manufactured in 1982 according to the second letter "M" OR 1978 according to the first letter "H"
